Why the Peugeot 2008 is one of the best sub-compact crossovers on the market

It’s no secret that the Peugeot 2008 is a taller and wider version of its popular 208 hatchback. The French car maker released the model as it didn’t plan to create an SW version (i.e. a station wagon or estate). Peugeot is no doubt leading the way when it comes to the sub-compact crossover SUV segment.

The Peugeot 2008 builds on the well-received 208 hatch and gives motorists a new choice. But, is it enough to tempt buyers to the Peugeot fold? Or those upgrading from existing Peugeot models? The short answer is yes. Here’s the extended version:

Distinctive looks

The first thing you will notice about the Peugeot 2008 is that it has unique styling. If you’re someone that doesn’t want a car that looks like most others on the road, the 2008 is for you! That’s not to say that it has “out of this world” styling, of course!

If anything, the design of the Peugeot 2008 makes the car fit in well wherever it goes. At the front of the car is that familiar Peugeot radiator grille. Walk around the vehicle, and you’ll notice that it’s got chunky styling.

The thing about cars in the same segment as the 2008 is that chunky styling often means little space inside. I’m pleased to report that the 2008 offers cavernous space in the interior!

A familiar cabin

Have you ever owned or driven a Peugeot 208 before? If so, you’ll notice the dashboard looks virtually the same as the small hatchback! Of course, that’s nothing new with car manufacturers. When they release bigger versions of existing models, they focus on continuity. It’s something you see a lot of with models entering new market segments.

Even if you’ve never stepped foot inside a 208 before, you’ll love the design of the 2008’s cabin. The controls are easy to use and navigate, and the touchscreen display just makes sense.

When it comes to seating arrangements, this new Peugeot is both comfortable and spacious. As I mentioned a moment ago, don’t let the chunky exterior detract you from the inside of the car. All passengers get plenty of head and legroom in the cabin. So, if you’re using this car for short or long journeys, you’ll still feel in great shape when you step out of it!

Not a 4×4

Now this statement might be a good or bad thing, depending on where you sit on the fence. The Peugeot 2008 has car-like handling on the road. What it won’t do is let you turn it into a rugged off-roader. That being said, it is offered with a system called Grip Control, which optimises the front-wheel drive system and maximises traction, even on snow!

One thing you will love about driving the Peugeot 2008 is that there is little body roll. You can confidently navigate this car around corners at speed, and it still sticks to the road.

Final thoughts

If you want a slightly larger family hatchback but cars like the Range Rover Evoque are perhaps a bit too big (and expensive), the Peugeot 2008 may well fit the bill perfectly!
