NEWS - Ford sales growth beats market and increases market lead

Ford has seen yet more success with sales growth in the month of May. Total vehicle sales, car sales and commercial vehicle (CV) sales increased compared with May 2014. This growth was greater than the UK market as a whole- a market which saw growth for the 39th consecutive month. This also meant Ford stretched its sales lead in each of these sectors over its nearest competitors.

Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “We are reaping the benefits of our continued investment in exciting products and industry-leading technologies, which are delivered through the strongest UK dealer network. Our fresh and extended CV range is an outstanding sales success and we are continuing our roll out of new models, including C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy, Mustang and Mondeo Vignale."

The official figures released by the SMMT yesterday show that total car sales in May were up 2.4 per cent to 198,706 units compared with May 2014. Ford car sales were up 3.5% at 24,273 which is 3,575 registrations ahead of its nearest rival. For the year to date (end May) total UK car sales were 1,119,072 which represents a 5.7% increase compared with the same period in 2014. Ford car sales for this period were 144,095 which give them a 31,683 registration lead over its nearest rival.

The Ford Fiesta and the Ford Focus were the number one and two top sellers in May with Focus sales up 26% compared with May 2014. The broad customer appeal of Ford’s car range is demonstrated by Fiesta, B-MAX, Focus, C-MAX, Kuga and Galaxy all occupying top three places in their respective market segments in May and for the year to date.
