At 175PS, the MUGEN model will have 50% more power than the standard CR-Z, and represents a strengthening relationship between Honda UK and MUGEN Euro; having also released the special edition Civic Type-R. This could be a good relationship and could signal some interesting vehicles hitting the market in the future.
MUGEN engineers did a little tinkering with the 1.5-litre engine, adding a centrifugal forced air induction system, charge air cooler and induction system and most importantly a MUGEN re-mapped ECU. The resulting power-to-weight ratio is impressive, and allows the CR-Z to hit 62mph in 6.1seconds; over 3 seconds quicker than the standard model.
Martin Moll, Head of Honda (UK) marketing said, "MUGEN Euro magic has created a super responsive yet eco-conscious model building on our sporting credentials and giving us the ability to compete in the "hot hatch" marketplace as we move into 2012."
Production development continues at MUGEN Euro, and test drives should be available through 8 Honda UK MUGEN dealers come Spring 2012. Prices, although currently unconfirmed, are estimated to start at around £24,000
