I am starting to work on some reviews for this blog and my column, and so thought I'd give a bit of an overview on how I will review and score the cars I test.
Each car will be scored on five categories, each out of a maximum 10. This gives an overall score out of 50. The categories will be as follows:
Looks - How stylish the car is, how a person looks driving it, the shapes, lines and designs that make a car's appearance, and if there are any options/features which should be specified or avoided.
Handling/Performance - What the car is like to drive. How easy it is to drive, how it gets power down in reality, the driving position and whether there are any bad handling features.
Economy - How the car did on the test with regards to fuel consumption. What the car will achieve in the real world; whether it will save the pennies or empty your wallet at the pumps.
Practicality - Just how useful the car is to own. What it is capable of, and the benefits of owning a car. How much space is there for all occupants and whether you can fit your shopping in the boot.
Fun - The most important category. Just how good the car is; whether you want to carry on driving it or get out and walk. A key characteristic of a car is the fun factor.
So put all these together and it should give a balanced view on the car's overall features. There will also be some additional comments, and some details of price/trims etc. Any questions can be sent via comments and I will answer accordingly.
So keep a look out for some upcoming reviews, and if there is anything you would like me to review do not hesitate to get in touch and I will see what I can do.
